About us

The Institute of Road Safety Officers aim is to facilitate the continued professional development of road safety practitioners to ensure that all casualty reduction interventions delivered in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland are evidence-led, target-driven, examples of best practice and of the highest quality. We also take pride in raising the knowledge and skills of like-minded individuals and organisations throughout the world.

We achieve this by providing and facilitating academic and competency based training and support opportunities for practitioners working in the public and private safe and sustainable transport sector. Our work recognises that the modern road safety practitioner may have multi-faceted responsibilities that also include disciplines such as health promotion, active travel, sustainable transport, travel planning and overarching transport strategy.

The Institute Chairs the National Staff Training Group (NSTG) which coordinates the development and delivery of relevant training opportunities for all levels of road safety practitioner, regardless of discipline.
